Rosemary Fowells Message From the Board
At our September Meeting we were privileged to have Carl Miller, who is a member of long-standing, as our guest artist. He did a watercolor of a setup and gave a running commentary as to why and how he made his decisions as to strokes and the colors he used. His presentation was enjoyed and very informative. We really appreciated having him with us again.
Our October Meeting will be a Brushoff with Lodi on Saturday, October 14, at 5:30 P.M., at Eunice Jewart's home. (There is a map included in this Collagraph on page 2.) We will not have a regular meeting on October 12. It will be a potluck Bring your own table service. Drinks will be furnished. We will need three volunteers to paint in the competition. For those unfamiliar with this event, a subject for the painting is picked at random from the guests. Each side has three painters and they paint for a designated time and then their efforts are judged and the coveted "Brush" is presented to the winning group. Last year we lost so we need to bring it back to Stockton!!!

According to S.A.L. by-laws, a Nominating Committee should be picked in October and they should do their best to find a President. We have been without one since 1998. In November the Nominating Committee announces the candidate and in December there is an election. We cannot continue on without the normal structure of an organization. It isn't fair to expect a small group of members to contribute their time year after year. We have to have more members getting involved and not just leave to a few good souls to carry the load. Give some serious thought to the problem and call anyone on the Board if you can be on the Nominating Committee.
Remember that October is our month for the Membership Drive. There is a form in the Collagraph to fill out and if you have an e-mail address, please include it along with your check for $20.00. Also included is an envelope with our Membership Chairman, Nancy Lawson's address. For any questions about membership, call Nancy at 477-8064.
Speaking of new members, there were five or six new people at the September Meeting. If we would like these people to join us, we must make them welcome. If you are sitting next to someone you don't know (even a member) introduce yourself and make them feel like you're glad they came. It is very uncomfortable to go to a meeting and not have anyone speak to you. Try it, it's not that difficult.
Do you have a desire to go outside to paint? Well, now there is a group that does this every week. Look for information in this Collagraph.
There is a Board Meeting the first Wednesday of the month and members are invited. It is held at my house, 8733 Stonewood Dr., at 3:00 P.M. Call me if you intend to come. 478-6549.
Betty Heinetz is the nice person who does our Collagraph. She works and does two other newsletters. She does not have time to call people and ask if they have anything. If you want something put in the Collagraph --
E-Mail her or call her, that you are sending something in the mail (if it is rather long) or give her the message. She needs the information by the 20th of the month. If you want it in the Collagraph-get it to her!!!! Her E-mail address is: BoopH29@AOL.com. Phone number: 772-3051. Address: 2425 Meadowood Dr., Valley springs, CA 95252 (the regular mail is rather slow).
If you have any questions, call me at 478-6549.
