Purpose
The Stockton Art League is an enthusiastic group of people who are interested in and enjoy the world of art. S.A.L. had its beginnings in 1936 as a critique session, and later as a sketching group. The membership includes professional, semi-professional, and amateur artists, and people who just enjoy our programs and exhibitions.WE provide or promote programs, workshops, classes, and activities that will stimulate growth in individual members and that will encourage the exchange of ideas between members.
WE provide or promote mutual cultural exchange with other organizations concerned with the creative arts and with the community at large.
WE aid in the building of art appreciation in San Joaquin County.
WE provide opportunities for exhibitions of works of arts and crafts for members, both as individuals and as a group.
Meetings 2002
We meet the second Thursday of the month, at 7 p.m., September through June, at the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery. Be sure and watch the Collagraph for the current meeting information.We have guest speakers, accomplished professional artists, and members who demonstrate their own special approach to art.
Our meetings are open to all. They provide a chance to meet with other art-minded people for an exchange of ideas and news, to see an interesting demonstration and to become more involved in art.
All S.A.L. exhibitions are open to the public, free of charge, and serve to enrich the appreciation of art in our community and help focus attention on our area artists.
