Rosemary Fowells Message From the Board
It is a very memorable occasion to find ourselves experiencing the start of the new Millennium. To me, it is rather an awesome feeling. What reaction will our grandchildren and great grandchildren feel when they realize they had relations as part of the old Millennium? I had a hard time adjusting to the fact that my parents were born in the 1800's. That seemed a long, long time ago. With this new beginning, may it bring everyone the very best of life.
This year also starts the 64th year that the Stockton Art League has been in existence. Marcella Wood had the idea to form this Club in 1936 and was its first President. We have had 35 presidents follow her. As of now, the board fills the function of that office.
The Board wishes to thank John Lewis for his generous and thoughtful donation of $2,000 to SAL. The money is invested and each year, at the Haggin Exhibition, a prize for an oil or watercolor painting will be given in his wife's name, Audrey A. Lewis.
Notice was sent by Edith Malan that she and her husband now have P. O. Box 684 which will enable them to receive mail faster. Everything is going well with them and she loves to receive mail.
We wish everyone a Happy New Year filled with many hours of pleasure spent doing their special art endeavor.
Date: January 13, 2000

Program: DALE LAITINEN WATERCOLOR
Dale Laitinen is best known for his aquamedia paintings of the west. He lives and works in the mountains of California where he is drawn to the topography of exposed rock which manifests itself as light catching ranges of mountains and deep canyons. In a Laitinen work, one finds the power of the inner as well as the outer landscape expressed through the use of strong composition and a distinctive abstract layering of pigment that reveals clarity of form and shape. This personal imprint is the hallmark of a Laitinen painting.
A graduate in Fine Art of San Jose State University in California, he is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. Laitinen's articles and paintings have been published in The Artist's Magazine, Watercolor Magic, The Splash series, and several other books. In addition to a full-time painting schedule, he teaches workshops across the country, and his own annual Dale Laitinen High Sierra workshop.
He has exhibited widely, including the National Watercolor Society, Watercolor USA, Watercolor West, and several solo and group shows. Gallery representation includes Pogan Gallery, Tahoe City, CA; Dunn Mehler Gallery, Half Moon Bay, CA; Fine Eye Gallery, Sutter Creek, CA; Pinecrest Gallery, Pinecrest, CA; and Markay Gallery, Littleton, CO.
Ever popular Dale Laitinen will fill the house. Don't be late! What a delightful way to start the Year 2000!
